“Human Nature” is on display from July 4th - July 26th, 2025
At MIX Art Gallery’s main showroom on the Ithaca Commons this month, is our new exhibition entitled “Human Nature” by sculptor and poet, Shawn Bridget Hull - featuring the most recent pastel drawing by celebrated artist Joy Adams, and photos of human nature by Wendy Gherity.
For Shawn, sculpting in clay isn't just art; it's a profound dialogue — a conversation between artist, material, and observer. Working exclusively with porcelain, Shawn finds beauty in its fragility, transforming it into a testament of strength through the fiery kiln.
Her art springs from nature's forms, each curve and contour infused with personal narrative, weaving a tapestry of metaphor. Poetry and storytelling aren't separate, but rather the very essence of her sculptural creations, exploring the profound unity between humanity and the natural world. "Nature doesn't merely surround us; it is us," she emphasizes.
Shawn's narratives are subtle, intimate whispers designed to resonate deeply within the viewer's imagination. Each sculpture is an invitation—a direct communication that transcends the physical form, bridging her world with theirs. The intensely personal becomes universally understood.
In these speaking sculptures, color acts as a silent language, a key unlocking deeper meaning. Shawn aspires to forge a powerful connection, to stir emotions, and to ignite a spark of recognition. Her ultimate hope is to reveal how our interactions with one another mirror our relationship with nature, fostering a deeper, more mindful consideration of both.
