Robert Mirek

Robert Mirek has maintained a studio practice for more than 45 years. His work has appeared in the 1999 Florence Biennale and represented in Arte Basel in 2007. He is in the permanent collection of the Museo del Tessile in Busto Arsizio, Italy and the museum of New art MONA in Detroit, Michigan. His work is in many private and corporate collections throughout the US and Europe. He has participated in solo exhibitions in Barcelona, Spain (Gallerie BAI 2000) Montreal, Canada (Galerie GORA 2000) Seal Rock, Oregon (TRIAD Gallery 2001) Ferrara, Italy (Estense Castle 2002) Novosibirsk, Russian Federation (Gallery LeVall 2002), New York, New York (Caelum Gallery 2003), Buggiano, Italy (Buggiano Castillo 2005), (Martin Mullen Gallery 2012).
He is a member of the FLUXUS movement and is featured in the collection of the Gilbert and Lila Silverman collection/catalogue ISBN# 87-90029-59-3. He has served as adjunct professor at the College for Creative Studies CCS- Detroit, Michigan and Lawrence Technical University LTU- Southfield, Michigan. Robert was awarded the 105th Gold Medal from the Scarab Club - Detroit, Michigan in 2018 for his large canvas: Blue Morphos - a Requiem for Robert Edwards.
In 2013 he curated the exhibition: Detroit Collective 2013 for the University of Michigan’s Works Gallery Detroit, Michigan. In 2002 Dr. David Calvo (Toledo, Spain) interpreted Mirek’s Aluminum Series in an essay entitled: Mirek’s Idols. He continues his studio practice with his wife designer/director Karen Larson and their two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Loki and Otis.
Mirek is currently showing 100 works from the last 25 years at MIX Art Gallery. “Points of Departure, A Retrospective” runs through November 2023.
